Urban Hope - Final Reflections

Urban Hope - Final Reflections

March 05, 2023

Today (5th March 2023) was the last Urban Hope Sunday Service.  We wanted to share the final part of the message today. Please take the time to reflect on this with us, and pray for us.

And as the Beatles once said

---

“There's nothing you can do that can't be done, Nothing you can sing that can't be sung,

Nothing you can say,

But you can learn how to play the game

It's easy…

All you need is love!”

---

What is love?

It’s in the ordinary meeting between people.

Like Nicodemus and Jesus.

Theirs is a secret meeting in the night.

Jesus meets a member of a group of people, the Pharisees, who are against him. In love.

In Christ.

You.

Are.

Loved!

Despite our failures

Past, Present and Future.

You are loved, because of the Cross of Christ.

“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.” John 3:16-17

This is my last talk at Urban Hope.

After nearly four years of Urban Hope life together.

What is there to say?

A very wise person taught me about the Teaspoon (TSP)  format of prayer – Thank you, Sorry, Please

So……..

Thank you, for allowing me to grow as we have journeyed together.

I’m sorry for the times when I’ve messed up and you’ve felt hurt.

And please:

Look to Jesus, THE one foundation our faith is built on.

It’s Jesus’ hope we wish to share.

His love we wish to show.

Look to Jesus in the good times, and the less good times.

That is my prayer for you.

May I ask that you also pray that, for me?

A prayer on the death of Her Majesty The Queen.

A prayer on the death of Her Majesty The Queen.

Text version:

Gracious God, we give thanks for the life of your servant Queen Elizabeth, for her faith and her dedication to duty. Bless our nation as we mourn her death and may her example continue to inspire us; through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Amen.

In Summer...

In Summer...

July 08, 2022

This summer we're hitting our usual summer programme, where we'll be closed some weeks but meeting in the park some other weeks. There's no need to book any more but if you do let us know you're coming then we can make sure there's enough food!

Old article: Current Worship with COVID restrictions

January 31, 2021

This is an old article. The below advice no longer applies.

It's 2021 and while we're winning the battle against COVID, there's still some things we need to do when meeting together to make sure we beat this thing!

Real Life 11:30 Sunday Meetings are happening but you have to book

It's fine for us to meet but we need to know in advance whether you are coming, limit numbers, and move tables around for social distancing (There's also a group of us who clean like crazy before and after). These meetings have been a beautiful thing and it's been lovely to see people.

Things to remember:

  • Message Steve by Saturday night to book your place - either on facebook or by emailing Steve@urbanhope.org.uk.
  • There isn't any YUK kids groups at the moment, so if you're bringing kids then you need to bring something that will entertain them at their seats.
  • Please bring masks.
  • We can't feed you or make hot drinks (usually we can manage bottled water) but feel free to bring your own things to eat/drink at your tables.

There's also great stuff at the same time on Facebook.

If you can't make it into church on the Sunday, don't worry, there'll still be some things on Facebook (videos and discussions followed by a Facebook room). The Facebook Group is private but you can request to join and then see the group here.

Exciting YUK News!

Exciting YUK News!

April 19, 2020

We have been talking about what to do about kids' work while we're all stuck at home. We miss the kids loads and wanted to do something that keeps teaching them that God loves them, and we love them, but also reassures them at this stressful time. So, announcing....

Every Sunday we'll be putting stories and activities on there. There's loads of stuff already up about today's theme - faithfulness, and next week we'll put up loads more stuff about the next fruit - gentleness. There's a whole lot of other stuff we can do as well over time, but hey, baby steps to start with. There's also an app you can download if your cherub has a smart device.

Please do show the site to your kids and tell us what they think, even if it's bad, we can make it better! We'll also be including a special "Gemma's Challenge" each week where the kids can win fabulous prizes, which will be given out when we do finally meet again.

Massive love and hugs

Gemma and David
